Call to Artists

Call To Artists!
Here is an opportunity for us Artists to pull together and do OUR THING, for Habitat for Humanity, sharing our talents with the community. Let’s show them how generous we can be with our time and talent for this great cause.
Each year Habitat for Humanity Inland Valley, puts together several Christmas trees to auction or raffle off as a fund raiser. In the past, they have been on display at the Promenade Mall in Temecula during the holiday season. I am in charge of the “Artist Tree” this year. The plan is to decorate the tree with original paintings and (hopefully) donated art supplies. The artists who donate a painting (or two if you like) will be listed as contributors. I hope to do some press releases about this so the sooner I get those paintings, the sooner the names will be on the list.
What we need:
Paintings 5x7 or smaller, ≤ inch (or thinner) wrapped style canvas, any shape, painted around the sides, no staples. Any subject matter is acceptable, however, keep in mind that there is a competition that happens every year themed, “Home is Where the Heart Is”. Paintings submitted that fit that theme would be considered for the annual Holiday ornament, so keep that in mind if you wish to be considered for that honor…but, again, there is no theme for this tree. I have some smaller thinner canvases that I have purchased for $1 each that are available for you, or you may purchase your own canvases. Perhaps you already have something done that you would like to part with. Please put your name on the back and contact information (phone, email, name, address, clearly printed, and business card) so that we can list you correctly on the sponsor information…as well as put it on the back of the art work.
When we need the art:
At this point I am setting the date at September 30 for the final date. That will give us time if we get them framed (if we can get a framer to donate that project..otherwise they will be presented painted around the edges.) The decorators need time to put the tree together as well. For me personally, I would like the paintings as soon as possible so that I can do some promo to generate interest and boost sales of tickets for the raffle.
Thanks …I hope I can count on your support for this project to benefit such a great cause.

I had an interesting exchange of emails this morning with a Client who is interested in one of my paintings I did last week at Surf Beach in San Clemente. What the gentleman said struck a cord. "..I have many original works of art in my home and they are all about ME".

He went on to tell me about his collection, and what I realized is that by going through this man's home, you would most likely get a good feeling for what he was all about. It was clear that this man it was not likely a priority for him to match his couch or decorate his home. It was about surrounding himself with images that meant something to him personally, directly. It didn't matter to him in the least if the color pallet matched the JC Penny towel collection or any other design trend. He mearly wanted images that spoke to HIM..that were all about HIM.

I think we should have this man give lessons to many of the art buyers out there. People buy art for many reasons, but I like this man's reason. I like that my work somehow connected to him personally. I like that he watched me paint it, and that before he left, he gave it a title..ha..something I have trouble with. I even more like that he liked my work enough to want to hang it on his wall, with the other works he felt were "all about HIM".

This is why we do our art. We love what we do. We are passionate about what we do, and it is rewarding to have our art collected by passionate about their collection.

I have posted the end result of that day's painting. I have a couple things I wish to address on this piece before I let it go, but am posting it here as is for you ..I hope you appreciate it as much as it's future owner.

Blessings,

Gabriele Baber
